Summary: Set in the episode Resolved because they still got back together too quickly on the show so I’m filling in the gaps for myself.
The first night they spent together in over three weeks and the only thing that it could be described as was awful; actually felt more uncomfortable than the last few weeks. Kevin didn’t really want Scotty to touch him and Scotty knew that; so he kept to his side of the bed even though all he really wanted to do was crawl over to Kevin and hug him, as he always had before.
This system continued to occur for a few nights after Kevin had moved back in before Scotty decided he needed to talk to Kevin about it.
It was late one evening; Kevin had been working all day and Scotty had decided to take the evening off. To prepare for the talk with Kevin and what he wanted to say and also to make it a nicer conversation with a home cooked meal in their apartment. Kevin had been joining him in the cafe for food in the evening; originally he thought it was a good idea, to ease them back into normality but now he was regretting the decision. All they seemed to do was eat and then Kevin would make up an excuse and leave; he’d always say how nice the food was but that was it. No talk, no touching (the one time he tried, Kevin had moved his hand away) and definitely no kissing.
So he asked Saul to tell Kevin to come up to their apartment for food when he came to the cafe; he looked at the time and was expecting Kevin to enter at some point soon. He looked up when the door to the apartment opened and Kevin came slowly into the apartment; he looked nervous, like a boy that has been set to the headmasters’ offices and knows that they’ve done something wrong.
“Hi” Kevin said looking around the apartment and seeing the table set for two; Scotty decided to go for a safer environment and didn’t include any candles thinking that Kevin might think he was pushing the subject, which was not what Scotty wanted. He knew when to push Kevin and this was absolutely NOT one of those times.
“Hi” Scotty said walking away and to the kitchen to get the food “food is almost done; sit down and I’ll just get it”. He had already set the table and put some wine on the table for them; which Kevin had already open, poured and started to drink before Scotty was back with the food. Obviously Kevin was nervous which is why he had put the wine on the table; but only one bottle, didn’t actually want to get drunk.
They repeated the last few nights, eating in slightly; Scotty wanted to talk but everything he originally had wanted to say left him when Kevin was right in front of him. And did he really have the right to say what he wanted to or was it more like could he say what he needed.
At the end of the meal; Kevin cleared away the dishes and was about to make an excuse to leave when he looked at Scotty and knew there was a real reason why Scotty had wanted the meal in the apartment.
He took his sit again and sat opposite Scotty and said the only thing he could “So?” he asked waiting for Scotty to raise the problem; this was the way Scotty did things. Make a nice meal, feel him up and then let him have it; except this time Scotty wasn’t letting him have it.
“So, what?” Scotty asked confused.
“So” Kevin started “are you going to tell me why you’ve done this”
“Do I need a reason” Scotty said accusingly.
“No” Kevin stated “but you have one, don’t you?” he already knew the answer to that.
“Yes” Scotty mumbled.
“So what is it?” Kevin said realizing for the first time that this was the longest conversation they’ve had since he moved back in and started to realize why Scotty was so nervous about saying something “Scotty, look at me” and he waited until Scotty raised his eyes to his “just tell me, you can tell me anything” he realized too late what he had said as they both winced at the memory of Scotty admitting about his cheating.
They stayed there is silence for some point before Scotty got his voice back.
“You said you wanted to move forward” Scotty said quietly and slowly but Kevin could still hear him.
The words went over in Kevin’ head, the words he had said a few nights ago but he couldn’t decide if he had honestly meant them. So he stayed in silent listening to what Scotty had to say.
“I thought you would start to forgive me when you moved back in”.
Could he really forgive Scotty for what he had done; he wasn’t sure if he could. One thing he still knew was that he loved Scotty and sometimes it was a simple as love. He hoped that love would help them get through this; he really did.
“You barely talk to me, you don’t want me to touch you and we sleep on opposite sides of the bed. It’s as if you didn’t even move back in”.
Had it really been that bad; Kevin thought over the last few days and nights and came to the conclusion that Scotty was right. The one time that Scotty had tried to take hold of his hand; Kevin immediately had thought about the cheating and drew his hand away.
“I really don’t know how we are supposed to get through this if we’re still this far about” Scotty concluded.
Kevin looked at Scotty and saw the pain ached over his face; he wanted nothing more than to take Scotty in his arms and tell him everything was going to be okay but he couldn’t do that because the truth was he really didn’t know if it was going to be okay.
“You’re right” Kevin admitted and Scotty looked up surprised “I need to be here and I guess I hadn’t realized I wasn’t until now but I don’t know how to get here”
“Do you really want to be here?” Scotty asked hopeful.
“Of course I do” Kevin said surprised that Scotty needed to ask.
“Maybe there is something we can do” Scotty said again nervous about the subject at hand but he knew he had to try something.
“What?” Kevin asked generally curious.
“Counselling” Scotty said shortly and then quickly added “I know you don’t like to talk about your feeling to others but I need to try something before I loss you, us and me” he really thought that if he didn’t try something Kevin would be gone; he might be here but it would be like living with a ghost.
Kevin thought it over, he rarely spoke about his feelings not even to his family (about the only thing he didn’t do; except recently). He knew he didn’t like where he was right now so maybe they should.
“Okay” Kevin said before he could change his mind.
“Really?” Scotty questioned his answer.
“Yes” Kevin continued “I don’t like being in this place anymore. I’ve got any idea; why don’t we go to Paige’ debate tomorrow and cheer her on” he said plastering on a fake smile.
“Really” Scotty asked again knowing that it was a fake smile but glad that Kevin agreed to counselling, he was trying and he was involving Scotty in the family again. Kevin nodded and Scotty smiled a real grin and watched as slowly Kevin’ smile changed into a genuine one; maybe everything would be okay.
