Summary: What if Kevin didn’t forgive Scotty but Michelle had still lied – set after An Ideal Husband but before Resolved. I’ve changed the timeline though.

A/N - So original it was just going to be one post; then it got too long and I thought I'd put it in two posts but then I thought what was the fun it that; so split it into five instead. Hope you enjoy

It was a Monday morning as Kevin slipped into the Cafe and into his office avoiding Scotty. Monday was always the more difficult day to achieve this because the Cafe was closed to customers.

That is why over the last month since moving out and into Kitty’s house he avoided taking meetings on a Monday. But this client couldn’t do any other day so he said he could meet today; it wasn’t like it was the clients’ fault that Scotty had cheated on him.

Of course, Scotty looked up and the sound of the door opening and watched from the kitchen as he tried to avoid Scotty; yet again. Scotty was in the kitchen preparing for a private party; of course Kevin didn’t know this.

They looked at each other for a split second before Kevin looked away; he just couldn’t look at his husband anymore without seeing the face of Marcus, part of him wished he had never seen Marcus. He might have been able to handle the nameless and faceless man that had stole Scotty away from him but instead he has the clear image that keeps appearing in his mind when he sees or thinks of Scotty. So he walks away into his office trying to shake the image out of his head.

Scotty had looked up at the sound of the door opening, hoping it would be Kevin but not believing it would be; he never came into the office on a Monday anymore. They looked into each others’ eyes and his heartbeat skipped a beat; he was about to smile at Kevin when he looked away shaking his head.

Scotty had no idea what to do anymore; it had been over a month since Scotty had told Kevin about the cheating, a month since Kevin had left him and he was lucky to being able to see Kevin once a day let only talk to him. Things had to change; so he stopped his work and went over to Kevin’s office and knocked on the door.

****

Kevin had barely sat down at his office when there was a knock on his door; he knew it wasn’t his client, so it meant it was Scotty.

He stayed silent not knowing whether he wanted to speak to Scotty or not.

The silence made Scotty angry and upset “Kevin, please, please, talk to me?” Scotty said not knowing what else to say or do.

Kevin was glad there was a door between them “I can’t, it hurts too much, I’m just not ready” he explained.

“I know it hurts but how are you ever going to be ready if you just avoid me, I’ve tried to talk to you or call you but you just won’t listen” Scotty said as his heart broke at little bit more with every word he said.

“Well, I have a client coming soon so maybe after the client has gone” Kevin said hoping that he would be able to slip out with the client and avoid the conversation that they would have to have at some point.

“What, so you can slip out and avoid me while I’m in the kitchen” Scotty said knowing how well Kevin’ mind works “I don’t think so” he could he Kevin silent curse “I’m coming in” he says loudly enough so that Kevin can hear him.

“No, don’t” Kevin said nervously getting up from his chair and looking for an exit as Scotty walked into the room.

Scotty could see Kevin trying to escape, run away from him, and it hurt to see how much Kevin was afraid of him. The only exit there was,
was the entrance that Scotty was at as well, so any escape he would have would involve passing Scotty.

“Please don’t run away from me” Scotty said holding up his arms as Kevin started to back into the wall, Scotty turned and closed the door, he tried to compose himself as he turned back towards Kevin “I know I hurt you, I would do anything to take it back but I can’t, I know that but we have to find a way through this Kevin, I don’t want to lose you or us. Please, I’m so sorry” he looked at Kevin with clear tears in his eyes.

“I know you are” Kevin admits “but I don’t know how that is supposed to change the way I’m feeling” he looks at his husband; he looks ready to cry “every time I see you; I see it happen and I wonder not only why it happen but how it happened, whether he was better than me, what he did to you and it all too much for me to handle” he says shaking.

“I could tell you those things but you told me you didn’t want to know any details” Scotty said really not wanting to relive that night; not today or ever again.

“And I don’t want to know but it doesn’t stop my brain thinking those things” Kevin says, logically he knows that if Scotty told him what happened he would know and might be able to put it past them but he also knows that the truth could be ten times worse than what he was thinking.

“You and your brain” Scotty said quietly and they both looked at each other smiling; knowing it has come between them before.

“This is different though, Scotty” Kevin says after the memory had gone.

“I know that but do you even want to get through this; because I’m trying to save us, you can see that, can’t you?” Scotty asked stepping closer to Kevin but still Kevin looks scared of him or maybe it was Kevin that was scared to be with Scotty. He took a step back knowing that if he push the topic Kevin would most likely push back or run away.

“I can” Kevin admits quietly and scared “but I don’t know if it’s enough” he looks Scotty in the eyes “I don’t know if love is enough to get us through this” Kevin knew that he still loved Scotty and that Scotty loved him but was it enough “when I can’t trust you anymore” Kevin said tears coming building up in his eyes. He loved Scotty more than anyone or anything before; he was his whole life, his soul mate, his other half and he had no idea how to get through everything and be who they were before.

“Kevin” Scotty said looking at him; he looked so lost and confused it broke his heart and he realized he had nothing else to say, he had no idea how to gain that trust he lost.

“Scotty” Kevin said in a resigned voice; not what to say to put a smile on his face again, he could say he forgave him but it would be a lie.

They stood there looking at each other and not saying anything, neither knew what to say or do.

They stood there until Saul called Scotty back into the kitchen and Kevin’ client came into his office.

Back to work; the only thing that was working right now was their jobs, business as usual as their life fell apart around them.
