Love at Sea – Part 6

By Kymley
About: Kevin and Scotty
Rate: PG
Disclaimer: Not mine. Just messing with the characters if B&S
Summary: AU this is my first try at this one. So at the moment I’ve been writing about a case study for my course; this makes me feel like I’m still doing uni work.

Nora opened her mouth to say that he might think he was ready to settle down (he might very well be ready) but she didn’t believe he was in love with Emily. She had see how they are together, they seem to be together more out of comfort or a mutual arrangement than because they were in love.

Though did she have the right to tell her son what he felt; the answer was of course no. Kevin was right though; she had said he would be given the ring if he asked for it. Though they didn’t seem in love they were a good match and Emily was much more respectable than previous partners

“Of course” Nora said “if you want it, it is yours. Are you sure you want it?” she asked not being able to stop herself.

“Yes” Kevin said surely and nodded.

“Then I will fetch it” Nora said and before she turned to walk to her room and get the ring she asked one final question “When were you planning on asking her?” curious to when she could expect to have enough daughter-in-law.

Kevin stopped for a quick second and then said “I was thinking tomorrow, the sooner the better” he said with a small smile on his face.

“Oh” Nora said smiling widely “how romantic proposing whilst of the Titanic and the maiden voyage; it will be something to tell the grandchildren” she said as she turned a walked away to find the ring not seeing the smile falter on Kevin’s face.

John led into the kiss for a split second before realizing that something was very wrong. This didn’t feel right, something was off; it didn’t feel like the Scotty he knew. He tried to pull back but Scotty kept a strong arm on him not allowing him to move.

That was when he knew that something was seriously wrong; neither Scotty nor he had forced or pushed themselves or each other, it was always a mutual understanding between colleagues or more precise friends.

He pulled further away this time, deliberately yanking his arm and whole body away from Scotty.

“Scotty, what the HELL is wrong?” he asked with more concern than anger.

“Nothing” Scotty answered not convincing himself or John, as he again tried to kiss John.

“Scotty” John said forcefully and pushed him away on to the bed but didn’t follow him there “You haven’t been yourself since I saw you this morning”.

Scotty went to argue but stop when he realized that John was right.

“It nothing, really, John, its’ nothing” Scotty said looking around the room for escape from the conversation.

“It’s NOT nothing Scotty” John said watching Scotty’ behaviour “first you arrive late, then your distracted and now with what just happen”.
Scotty looked at John and knew he was right; he had pushed himself onto John, though that was the reason why John had come here; they also had rules. He sighed knowing what was wrong but not knowing what to do about.

“You know you can talk to me about anything, right?” John said sincerely.

Scotty looked up at John and knew he was telling the truth.

“It’s nothing” Scotty repeating and even as the words came out of his mouth he knew that they were lies. He looked around the room again before deciding to tell John the truth.

“I met someone” Scotty started and John looked at him in shock “well kind of but I’m not sure what to do...” he told John of the brief looks between the man and himself. He explained how distracted he had been and wasn’t sure what to do.

Nora walked into Williams’ and hers room and found William on one of the lounge chairs with a cigar in one hand and a glass of whiskey in the other. Kevin waited outside the room as he wasn’t sure what his father would say or do about his decision, so he would rather not know, he walked further away from their room.

“So” Nora said approaching William.

He turned his head to see his wife approaching him but wasn’t quite pleased by the glare of anger in her eyes. Oh, dear, what had he done now? He waited for her to begin.

“You’ll be pleased” Nora said the word please full of hatred “that Kevin has decide to marry Emily”.
William did smile at that news; though that wasn’t the reaction Nora had hoped for. “What is wrong with that?” William asked causally not wanting Nora to get anger from the question.

“Because” Nora explained “her doesn’t really love her. He seems to be doing it for some other reason, for acceptance or reputation”.

“What is wrong with that?” William asked “he should care about those things. It is important to be accepted and if we are not careful the Walker name will be ruined by his infidentlaty and by Justin behaviour” he clarified the situation as best as he could.

“Those” Nora said angrily “aren’t the most important things in the world and particularly in marriage. Are you saying that you only married me because of acceptance and NOT love” she said hurt.

William watched Nora as she got upset, he stood and went over to her “I married you because I loved you” he said clearly and loving.

Though if he was honest she was also a good match, it had created acceptance in his family and business dealings.

He heard her timid voice reach his ears “Me too” she slowly moved away from the hug and was reminded why she had come into the room in the first place.

“Oh dear” she said to herself and then said to William “I have to find Grandmothers ring” William looked at her strangely before she said “I promised Kevin, he could have it when he decided to get married and in the mean time I would keep it safe” she answered.

She walked over to the safe and turned the dial to collect the ring that would later be given to her future daughter-in-law.
