Summary: Kevin and Scotty see Michelle after she moved back to the city with her new boyfriend. Based after the last episode so 5.08

A/N Sorry it's take me longer to write this; I've been ill and I've been trying to do uni work as well. Hope you enjoy 

It took a minute for them to process the information and then they started to speak all at the same time.

“You have babies” Nora says stating the obvious.

Justin also stated the obvious “You guys have twins, cool” thinking they had lost their own kids.

“Where did they come from?” Saul says confused that they hadn’t mention anything to him.

“I didn’t know you had started the adoption process” Kitty says presuming that they must have adopted them.

Luc just looks at them and says “Congrats” knowing how much they wanted a family and the difficult time they had recently.

“Don’t you think it might be a bit soon” Sarah says quietly worried that they won’t be able to handle the additionally pressure of kids.

Kevin and Scotty looked at each other and then back at the family.

“You guys should sit down, we have something we need to tell you” Kevin said pointing to the sits and everyone sat down waiting for an explanation.

Kevin started to explain the situation with Scotty jumping in every once and a while with additional information.

The family just sat there in silence listening to the story that could have been right from a book but they had the babies in their arms and the pain in their face; they knew it was true.

They got to the end of the story and everyone slummed back in their seats like they had just run a marathon and just stared at each other and then at Kevin and Scotty. Was there anything that could be said that would make everything okay?

The answer was no but they tried anyway.

“So can I hold my grandbaby then” Nora asked with Kitty following suit wanting to hold them. Kevin and Scotty looked at each other, they weren’t sure they wanted to let them go yet. This might be there family but they had only just got them back and didn’t want to let them go yet.

“Maybe later” Kevin said gently; everyone knew that it would be difficult for them to every leave them out of their sight again.

“Okay” Nora said understanding their feelings but wanting to hold the babies all the same. She thought she’d go for a safety topic “So what are their names?” she asked.

Again Kevin looked at Scotty then said “Well, we are changing their names but it isn’t official yet so for now they don’t have any” Kevin answered refusing to call them by the names that Michelle had given them.

Kitty tries a different subject “So you guys need supplies, right” Kevin and Scotty nodded.

“The police gave us some car seats but that’s all we have” Scotty says scared; there is so many items they need get.

Kitty gets up and pats both of them on the shoulder “I’ll go home and get some of Evan’s old stuff” she says as she leaves the house.

“I’m sure I have some of Cooper’s stuff at home as well” Sarah and Luc follow suit as Kitty.

Justin left after a while; thinking he wanted to get them something as well.

Kevin and Nora are talking quietly in one corner of the room and Scotty and Saul are talking in the other corner.

“So, how are you guys handling the news?” Nora asked worried about her son and son-in-law.

“Last night was the first time that we really started to become us again” Kevin said sadly “Then today was supposed to be the rebirth of us. Instead we find our babies. I glad we did but I keep thinking about how much better this year would have been if we already had them” thinking about this being possible the worse year of his life.

Nora nods understanding; thinking about Aaron, the accident and the affair, it had been a difficult year for everyone but Kevin had it worse.

“We’ll get through it” Kevin said determined “We’ve got each other and we’ve got our family” he said looking at Scotty.

“So, how are you feeling” Saul asks; he looks scared.

“Guilty” Scotty said honestly looking around the room and feeling out of place “I’m the one that pushed Kevin into using Michelle as a surrogate; he didn’t really want her. He was right; she wasn’t mature enough to carry our babies. She lied to us. She lied to me. We were supposed to be friends” Scotty said trying to explain away the guilt.

“It’s not your fault Scotty” Saul said knowing it to be the truth. “It’s a question of trust and it failed” Scotty looks even guiltier with the last comment.

“I failed so much this year” Scotty said and looks over at Kevin.

They catch each others’ eyes and while Kevin looks happy, Scotty looks sad.

Kevin seeing the pain and guilt on Scotty’ face walks over to Scotty after placing the baby into Nora’s arm. Scotty was more important at that moment.

“What’s wrong honey” Kevin said concerned and it makes Scotty feel even worse.

Kevin looks at Scotty and then asks Saul “Can you?” pointing to the baby and Saul takes the baby out of Scotty’ arms and walks away knowing they need privacy; he goes over to Nora and they leave together to the kitchen.

“What’s wrong honey” Kevin said wrapping himself around his husband.

“It my fault, everything is my fault, this entire year is my fault” Scotty said shaking with the effort not to cry.

Kevin lets go of him slightly and lifts his face so he could look into his eyes “No it isn’t” Kevin said and for the first time he actually believed it a 100%. He knew that he was to blame for the cheating but he was finally letting it all go; not blaming anyone anymore. It was no one’s fault anymore it was just something that happened; it was forgiven not entirely forgotten but it was forgiven.

Scotty was looking at Kevin and knew that Kevin meant want he said but he was finding it difficult to believe.

“But it is” Scotty said not accepting it.

“No it isn’t” Kevin repeated “Nothing this year had been either of our faults” making sure that Scotty believes him.

“But I..” Scotty said about to mention the cheating was his fault.

“No. We both made mistake” Kevin said stopping Scotty.

“I choose her” Scotty said determined to take the blame.

“No, we did” Kevin said.

“You didn’t want to use her” Scotty said knowing it was the truth.

“Yes, originally I didn’t want to. We talked about it and we came to the decision to use her. We wouldn’t have used her if I didn’t want to” Kevin said and Scotty knows he would never of agreed to it if he didn’t want to.

“But..” Scotty said still wanting to take the blame.

“Scotty” Kevin stopped him and looked at him “Just let it go. Let the guilt and pain go. You are not to blame”

Scotty starts to shake as he releases the emotions he has been holding on to.

“Anyway, we have our family now” Kevin said smiling and Scotty smiled at the comment; he felt that he had his Kevin back.

“I love you so much” Scotty said.

“I love you too” Kevin said.

Kevin moves forward slightly and Scotty meets him in the middle for a gentle kiss; they only pull apart when they hear the cry of one of the babies and head towards the kitchen.

Meanwhile in the Kitchen

“Is everything okay with Scotty?” Nora asks concerned about her son-in-law; he looked sad when they should be celebrating.

“He is just feeling guilty” Saul said but just leaving it there.

“Why, he doesn’t have anything to feel guilty about” Nora said and Saul just looked at her until she said “Oh” thinking about the cheating “but that doesn’t have anything to do with the babies” she says as she looks at her grandbabies.

“Well, it’s not just that” Saul said “Michelle is or was Scotty’s friend. He wanted to use her as a surrogate. I think it’s also to do with the fact that their problems didn’t really start to happen until after they lost the babies or thought they did.” Saul said thinking it’s going to be a while to get the grammar right and smiled at the thought.

“Well doesn’t that make it Michelle’s fault and not Scotty” Nora said sensible making the connection.

“This is Scotty though” Saul said and Nora understood that he was going to blame himself and there was nothing that any of them could say to make him feel any different; only Kevin could do that.

The baby in Nora’s arm starts to wake up and cry and two seconds later Kevin and Scotty are in the kitchen to see want is wrong.

“What is wrong” Kevin asks worriedly “what have you done” he asks accusingly.

“Nothing” Nora says insulted by the accusation “sometimes babies just cry, you need to get used to it”

“Why is he crying though, do we need to do something?” Kevin said and looks at Scotty “We should have got some supplies before we came here”

“Yeah, we should” Scotty agreed “what were we thinking?”

“Oh god, what do we need; food, nappies, bottles, clothes. Oh my god; we should write a list” Kevin said starting to panic, maybe they were in a good place emotional to have the babies but physically was another.

Scotty ran to Kevin’s side starting to panic when Justin came in with some bags and Sarah followed soon afterwards.

“Luc is looking after Paige and Cooper; they wanted to come but we thought we’d leave it until later. I found some clothes, toys and a few other things. Hope it will help” Sarah said as she gave the bags to Kevin and Scotty and they both thanked her as she went back outside and came in with a push chair “I know it only fits one but it’s all I’ve got” Sarah said giggling at the thought.

Kevin and Scotty were shocked with the push chair was nothing compared to what they felt about what was in Justin’s bag.

He handed them the bags and they looked inside as he said “I thought you might not of had the time to get anything” he had gone and got some of the essential things a couple packs of nappies, some formula milk and some sterilisation kits.

They both looked at Justin and went over and hugged him and thanked him.

“You’ve thought of everything we need for at least right now” Kevin said.

“Well I had some help; the staff we’re helpful to point out things I missed” Justin said laughing and the rest of the family joined in.

A while later Kitty was back with another pushchair and other items.

“You know, this means we are going to need to do a baby shower” Nora said getting excited.

Kevin and Scotty looked at each other scared; they remembered Kitty’s one.

“No mum, we don’t need one” Kevin said hoping to table the topic.

“But you have too” Kitty and Sarah said thinking if they had to put up with one then so should they; plus it helps with the cost of things.

Nora looks at Scotty and he caves “Okay” Scotty said ignoring the look that Kevin was giving him.

“It will be fun Kevin” Scotty says whispering into his ears “If it’s not I’ll make it up to you” Scotty bribes.

Kevin looks a bit happier at that comment and says back “You had better”.

At the Jail

Steve had been away for a couple of hours, getting some air and planning what to do.

He was waiting to talk to Michelle in the holding room. Michelle came in and saw Steve.

“Steve, what are we going to do?” Michelle said going to him, she hadn’t stopped crying since they said the decision.

“Were going to get you the best lawyer, get you out of here and then get our family back” Steve said determinedly and with a glint in his eyes.

“Promise me” Michelle said as she looked at him.

“I promise you” Steve said “I’ll do anything to keep our family together” knowing he would Michelle smiled.
