Kitty had left the hospital again tonight; she had routine which had developed over the months after the years. Get up; get dress, get Evan up, get Evan dress, drop him at day care, go to the hospital, see Robert, take care of Robert, kiss Robert goodbye, pick up Evan, get Evan ready for bed, then go to bed.
An endless routine had occurred; Kitty hadn’t noticed it but others had and the looks that had started to become more frequent the longer the routine occurred.
It was the looks that Kitty had noticed,
The looks that had began with sympathy and hope; these looks had changed to pity. No hope appeared in the faces of anyone anymore.
Kitty used to cling to those looks; the hope of others gave her hope.
As the hope changed so had Kitty; she started to lose herself in the pity.
She wasn’t the same strong women she was at the start of this tragedy; the looks gave her strength. People had her changed her; forced her to hope.
Now people were looking at her with pity and she understood the look. It was the look you gave people when the absolute worse had occurred; when the death of someone close had occurred.
What she didn’t understand was why people were giving HER that look. Her someone was alive still, he was hurt but he wasn’t dead.

It was when the look was in the faces of those that loved and cared about her; then she knew that there might actually be something wrong with her and not the others.
Justin had come home and showed her the truth.
She finally understood and knew what she had to do.
But could she actually do it?
Did she have the strength to do it?
She sat outside Robert’s room and knew that it was time but could she actually go in there and actually say the words goodbye. She had finally said them aloud to her mother but could she say them to Robert. Robert was her strength; her everything, what was she without them.

She walked inside the room; Jason was already inside, as was Kevin and Scotty for support. Everyone else was left outside the room.
She looked at the three people in the room and saw the resolve and acceptance in their faces. They knew Robert was gone and they had already said their goodbye; when they had done that, was their own secret.
They were there to finally let Robert go.
No one said anything as Kitty walked over to the side of his bed and lent down and whispered into his ears “It okay, it’s time, you can let go, I’ll miss you, goodbye Robert”.
She cried silent tears as she nodded towards the doctor by the machine and watched as he slowly switched off the machine that had been keeping Robert alive for the last year.
As the last machine was switched off she had one final thought “I’m a widow”.
