Summary: AU this is my first try at this one. So at the moment I’ve been writing about a case study for my course; this makes me feel like I’m still doing uni work
A/N - Posting earlier today - going to busy until Monday so no more updates until then, sorry
Kevin looked up at Emily’s last words but wonder what they could do that would resolve the problem and that wondered why Emily would want to resolve anything.
She got what she wanted; the proposal and the ring, why would she want to help him or Scotty.
“I know what you’re thinking” Emily mussed “though we are not in love; it doesn’t mean that I don’t know you” then she tried to phrase the next part of her speech carefully but how could she tell him that she was actually in love with Justin “the reason why I’m willing to do this” and she smiles when Kevin looks shock at the fact Emily does know what he was thinking “is it’s my fault”.
Kevin was shaking his head and the statement but Emily dismissed the action.
“It’s true” Emily accepted “I should never have accepted the proposal; it was what I wanted. Though, at the same time it wasn’t. The truth is I should have walked away from you a long time ago; the shouldn’t have stayed when I was aware that you were seeing other people but I did” and she breathed in a huge amount of oxygen for the next part “it wasn’t until this morning that I actually realized why” and it was then that she couldn’t actually say the reason.
“Why?” Kevin asked demanding but in a gentle tone; why had she stayed with him, most women had walked away quickly and it had always intrigued him to why she had stayed. He had at first thought it was related to his status and money but he knew her, just as well as she knew him; he knew that it wasn’t that reason. Though, he could never find enough reason.
She looked at Kevin’s expecting face and knew that she had to tell him the truth.
“Justin” Emily said timidly.
It was at that moment that everything fell into place; Emily had always been concerned about Justin, wanting to make sure he was safe and that nothing was harming him. Though, they could never stop Justin from harming himself; Emily always tried though. She was always there for Justin; she always gave him a calm feeling, where he didn’t feel the need to hurt himself anymore.
Oh... my... god, Kevin thought, they are in love with each other, it was so obvious he was wondered how he had never say it before.
Though he had always been slightly self involved; he never really paid attention to Emily, at least no more than a friend would pay to enough friend.
“You’re in love, aren’t you” Kevin asked not accusing her of anything but just stating a fact.
Emily nodded.
“So” Kevin came back to the original conversation “what are we going to do?” Kevin said smiling.
“This might not be the right idea but it was the only idea that I could come up with” Emily said still hesitant about whether the plan would actually work.
“We’ll make it work” Kevin said confidently; he knew now that he couldn’t actually marry Emily, no matter the consequences.
“I marry Justin instead” Emily declared.
“What?” Kevin asked shocked “How is that a plan?” he expected an engagement break or just delayed until they could come up with a bigger option.
“I can’t just break the engagement Kevin, it would destroy my reputation” Emily said defensively and Kevin knew it would “but the fact that news would not have circulated that far yet; we can claim that people were mistaken and that yes I am engaged to a
Walker but that people were mistaken to which one”.
“There is a slight problem with this plan, Emily” Kevin said, he might have liked the plan but there was no way that they would be able to pull it off.
“I know, Justin needs to agree and there is no reason why he would” Emily said sadly accepting that Justin probable wouldn’t want to marry her anyway.
“Emily” Kevin said laughing “Justin is crazy about you, it’s not him I’m worried about” and it’s at that point that he started to frown.
“Then who?” Emily asked but then realized who he was talking about “your father, William, you mean”.
And Kevin nodded in dismay.
“Emily” and the next few words that Kevin said would be painful for Emily “I asked for the ring from my parents but then decide against the proposal” and Emily’s face fell “I had meet Scotty, the gentleman you saw me with and we decided that after the ship docks in New York we would try something” not sure how else to explain the fact that they were going to have a relationship “and I didn’t want you to be hurt by the that; it would have been unfair to both you and Scotty”.
“You were going to break up with me?” Emily concluded.
Kevin nodded “So, you see, this is my fault”.
“What made you change your mind?” Emily asked shocked that he would make a decision like that and then completely change his mind; she didn’t need the answer it was always the same, William.
“He said he would exclude me from the family” Kevin said sadly and she knew that William had hit the one place that would hurt Kevin the most; his family. There was nothing that Kevin wouldn’t do for his family.
“Well, we going to find a solution and it doesn’t matter what William thinks” Emily said resoundingly.
“I don’t care about the consequences anymore” it was the first time that Kevin admitted it; he wanted Scotty and it didn’t matter what he had to do to get him back into his life and to keep him there.
