Summary: AU this is my first try at this one. So at the moment I’ve been writing about a case study for my course; this makes me feel like I’m still doing uni work
A/N - Laptop died on my (yet again) and so I've lost a couple of chapters I was working on - they'll need to be done from scratch and memory.
Stupid waiter Kevin thought to himself; not only had Kevin made an foolish decision by actually agreeing with his father and proposing to Emily (and she said yes) but the waiter had poured the champagne down Kevin’ trousers and forcing him to go and clean himself up.
He thought about that again and started to smile instead; maybe it wasn’t such a bad situation to be in.
It meant that he could have some quiet time to himself and not continue to smile like the moron that he felt he was. He did need to pretend that he was happy with everything that had happened; the only person that seemed truly happy about everything was William.
Everyone else seemed very confused with the situation; even Nora appeared unhinged though she knew it was going to occur.
No one was happy with the outcome.
Then he remembered the pain and confusion he witnessed on Scotty’s face and he couldn’t believe that he hurt the one person that he never meant to hurt.
How could he put Scotty through that much pain?
He knew that he could go through the pain himself but to inflict that on the person he cared most about; what had he been thinking?
His mind was so full that when he entered into his room and went to change his trousers he never heard someone else enter into the room and lock the door behind him.
He only turned around when he heard his name being softly pronounced “Kevin”.

Scotty watched and started to move to the entrance of the saloon when the waiter had ‘accidently’ knocked some champagne down Kevin just as he had asked him to do.
Though he didn’t explain why he asked him to do it; he had always suspected that the young man would understand him without needing a reason.
He waited until Kevin had left the Saloon by himself before he started to follow Kevin carefully as not to draw any attention to either himself or Kevin.
He approached the room that Kevin had entered and was about to knock on the door to confront him when he noticed that the door hadn’t closed properly when Kevin attempted to slam it behind him.
He slowly opened the door just as he noticed Kevin changing out of his trousers; he closed the door behind, locked it and then said softly as to no one in particular “Kevin” and waited until Kevin turned around.

“Scotty” Kevin said shock and went to grab his trousers and put them on.
“It’s not exactly something I haven’t already seen” Scotty teased and was pleasantly surprised with the blush that slowly crept up Kevin’s neck and face; he smiled smugly at the reaction.
“I...I...Um” Kevin hesitated over his words not sure what Scotty was doing in his room or what he should say to Scotty; there was so much to say to him but it just didn’t seem to be enough.
Scotty watched as Kevin stumbled over his words; it was entertaining for him to watch.
And part of Scotty thought Kevin deserved it; for not only proposing to Emily but for also standing up Scotty the night before.
This was only probable a fraction of what Kevin had put Scotty through in the last 12 hours and both of them knew it.
“I...I’m...” Kevin said still clumsy over his words but eventually said “I’m sorry” looking directly into Scotty’s eyes.
Scotty could tell that he meant the words but he didn’t know if the words were enough; so he stood there not saying or doing anything, just waiting for Kevin to continue.
Kevin still saw the hurt, confusion and something else in Scotty’s eyes but he also knew that Scotty was running away from him like he had feared he would do when he saw him.
Scotty was just waiting for him to speak, to say anything.
“I really am sorry, Scotty” Kevin said and notice Scotty cringe at the word sorry so he quickly continue “about last night and this morning; that was not how I wanted you to find but I didn’t have a choice”.
That was when Scotty got angry and let some of it out “You had plenty of choices Kevin you just choose wrong” though he didn’t sound anger; he sounded more disappointed in Kevin and somehow that was worse.
“I really didn’t know what to do” Kevin continued “I went to tell my parents I changed my mind about marrying Emily; that it wasn’t what I wanted, just like I said I would”.
Scotty nodded remembering their conversation from the day before “What changed then?” Scotty asked scared; he really didn’t understand what had happened to HIS Kevin; this person was not the person that he left yesterday.
“My parents weren’t there” Kevin said as if he was walking down the memory of the day “my dad was there though” he said bitterly “he said I wasn’t allowed to change my mind but I said he couldn’t make me do it” he said looking at Scotty with clear pain on his face “then he said he could...and I knew by the sound of his voice that he meant it”.
“What did he do?” Scotty said worriedly whilst he approach Kevin slowly.
“He said he would disinherit” Kevin laughed at the thought “not that would stop me but then he said he would forbid anyone from ever seeing me”.
Scotty looked at Kevin with a mixture of shock and disbelief.
