Summary: What if Kevin was the one to get Amnesia

Back in Holly’ Room

The doctor looks at the heart monitor and then the clock on the wall and makes a decision.

“Time of death: 6:45” says the doctor then walks out of the room to find the family. He sees them close by and walk slowly towards the group of people.

“Hi David, Rebecca, Justin I’m sorry we did everything we could but she’s gone, I’m sorry for your lose”. Before the end of the sentence Rebecca had jumped up and ran into her mothers’ room with Justin and David quickly following. The doctor stands around out sure whether to follow them when his pager goes; he looks at it and sees it’s for Kevin Walkers room. He starts to run hoping that the same thing isn’t about to happen to this family.

Meanwhile in Holly’s room

“Mum” Rebecca yells as she runs into here mums’ room “Mum please wake up, please” she says crying. She goes over to the bed and tries to shake her awake; Justin just looks at her dumbfounded. David goes over to Rebecca and has to forcefully remove Rebecca as she clings on to her mother.

“Honey, she’s gone there nothing we can do” they turn towards each other, hug as they cry.

Justin looks at them not sure want to do, when his phone goes off, he looks at the number and see its’ his mother and decides not to answer. He presumes she just wants to talk to him about Rebecca and the argument.

Both Rebecca and David look at Justin when his phone goes. Rebecca gets anger with Justin again “Why didn’t you just answer it. You care more about them than you do about me or mum.”

“Rebecca, please I’m here for you. That is all I want to do, is to be there for you. You just won’t let me.” Justin says scared that he was losing his wife before the accident; let alone now. He realises his losing her and not sure how to stop it from happening.

She looks at Justin, her dad then her mother, pushes away from day and runs and keeps running through the hospital until she’s outside. She breathes in the fresh air to quickly and realises what’s about to happen she gets to a trash bin and throws up.

Back in the room David and Justin just look at each other not sure what to say as the nurse Annie comes in. She looks at Justin and his father-in-law; she has started to understand the dynamics of this family over the last week.

The next part is always the worst for her to do. “I’m so sorry for your lose; do you guys want to say goodbye before...” she stops mid sentence when they look at her, she’s not sure she can continue.

David looks at her then and Holly and just knows what the young nurse is going to say. “So what happens next?” David says calmly. Annie starts to explain the procedure and Justin zones out when his phone rings yet again. He looks down at the phone, knowing it was his mother anyway. “Um, I should answer this, tell everyone what has happened” he says as he backs out the room. David nods his acknowledgement.

“Hey Mum, look something has...what do you mean have I seen Scotty. No, isn’t he with Kevin. What, really, oh no. No I can’t leave Mum. I need to be here. That is why I answered the phone Mum, something happened. Holly died. No, she’s not handling it well, how do you think she going to be Mum, she just lost her mother. She could barely look at me, and then ran away. I’ve got to find her. I’ll come see Kevin soon and I’ll let you know if I see Kevin. Will do”

Justin walks back into the hospital room “Hi David, I’m going to find Rebecca, are you okay by yourself for a bit”. Justin slightly concerned leaving David to deal with everything by himself.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine” David says hurriedly “Did you tell your family?”

“Yeah, Mum sends her love, she would come over now but there is an issue with Kevin” Justin says not wanting to concern David but also wanting to be honest.

David looks up at the mention of Kevin’ name as does Annie. “Is something wrong with Kevin” David says concerned knowing that Justin might feel tore between where to be.

“Um, no, not really, she thinks he might be something suffering from amnesia. But you know mum she always overacts to us kids” Justin says trying to joke about it.

David looks at Justin and doesn’t believe Justin not being worried about Kevin. “If you need to go see him you should” David says.

“No, I know with the kind of injury he has he can suffer from temporary amnesia. Don’t worry I’m right where I need to be at the moment. I can see Kevin later” Justin says confidently with an undertone of concern.

“Okay, well can you see if you can find Becky then, I’m worried about her and if you see you family send my love back” David goes back to the conversation with Annie.

Justin walks out the room trying to think about where Rebecca would go and trying to not think of the case studies he had learnt about amnesia patients when he was in school.

Back in Kevin’ Room

“Mum, where is Jason?” Scotty hears those words and his heart breaks into two. He looks at his husband asking for some else and for the first time in their relationship he has no words. His mind flashes back to when he was just a “friend” staying with Kevin, then goes further back to when he had to walk into Kevin’s office and ask for his help with the DUI charge.

Oh god Scotty thinks how hard it had been for him to walk back into that office, how he went back and forth in his mind about whether he could do it. The real reason he went through with it was because he needed a lawyer and part of him just wanted to see Kevin again. Then there was the awful dinner where he neglected to mention his boyfriend before he tried to kiss him. Oh god how much he was in love with Jason back then and it took a long while for Kevin to get over Jason. The last three years have gone, two years of marriage, the good and bad just gone. Oh my god want about the baby, Michelle has been to visit a couple of times hoping that it might help to know the baby was okay. Want if he doesn’t want the baby anymore, let alone me.

My life is ruined Scotty thinks and starts to tear up; the thoughts happened so quickly that it only took seconds but to Scotty it seemed years. All the plans for the future they had made were shattered.

Nora is still backing out of the room with a smile on her face until she backs into Scotty. “Oops, I’m sorry” Nora says not really registering that it’s Scotty that she has hit.

As Kevin realises that his mum has hit someone he looks at the person entering into the room, thinking that it would Jason or another member of his family, he’s quite surprised none of the rest of the family are around him. Not realising that everyone is in different rooms over the hospital looking after other loved ones.

He looks at the person that has just walked in and after a shock second he says “Scotty, is that you?” Kevin says in surprise.

“Um, yeah, Hi Kevin” Scotty says not sure what to do or say.

“What are you doing here?” Kevin say surprised to see him, not trying to be mean, just not understanding.

Scotty looks at Nora then back to Kevin and he starts to tear up, he needs to get out of here before he cries. “Um, I’m just visiting, must have got the wrong room or something. I hope your okay but I really need to leave, sorry” Scotty says as he practically runs from the room.

Both Nora and Kevin say at the same time “Scotty, wait” but both for different reasons. Nora because she’s worried how her son-in-law is going to handle the situation and Kevin because he was confused with the situation and worried about the look on Scotty’s face. He looked so sad, hurt and about to cry that Kevin just wanted to get up and give him a hug. Kevin wonders where that thought came from and wants to slap himself; I have a boyfriend that I love.

“Blast from the past, wasn’t it mum?” Kevin says trying to lighten the atmosphere in the room, everything felt really heavy. Instead it seemed to make everything worse and he doesn’t know why. His mum looks more worried than before.

“Mum can you please just tell me what is going on, where is everyone, where is Jason?” Kevin starts to get worried not knowing what was wrong but knowing something wasn’t right.

“I’ll be right back Kevin, I’m just going to get the doctor” Nora says in that way that Kevin knows not to argue to, he lies back on his bed and thinks. He thinks about how scared his mother has looked since he woke up, how he can’t remember why he’s in the hospital, where is Jason and his family. Then he finally thinks about Scotty, the look of pain on his face and how he had missed Scotty. He was the one person that he really regretted how it had ended between them; he had really liked Scotty if his honest he was in love with after only a short time of being together. There was still part of him that cared about him but after the Valentine’s Day night he knew he was never going to get back with him. That’s it, it just occurred to him why Scotty was so hurt; he looked similar the morning after.

He knows he shouldn’t be thinking about Scotty so he starts to think of Jason and their conversation. He said he would wait when Jason was in Malaysia, he said he was in love with Jason and he meant it but something wasn’t sitting well with him. Where is Jason? He can’t still be going, can he? Or has he already gone and doesn’t care that much after all?

Left alone with his thoughts Kevin kept trying to come up with the answers but nothing seemed to feel right.

In the Hallway outside Kevin’ room

Nora looks around for Scotty, not surprised that he can’t be seen anywhere. She’s so worried about him. Plus Kevin, that she needs to find a doctor but first things first; make sure Scotty is okay. She pulls out her phone and rings Sarah; she explains the situation and asked for them to find Scotty and also to keep Jason away for the present time as to not confuse Kevin.

Once that’s done she call Tommy to update him with the situation then lastly she call Justin but gets no answer. It is at this point she decide to find the doctor; she comes across a nurse and asks them to call for a doctor, she explains the situation. The nurse goes away and comes back a few minutes saying that Dr. Michael Carter would be on his way now; the normal doctor for Kevin.

It’s during this wait that Nora decides to try ringing Justin again; this time she gets hold of him. She feels deflated at the end of the conversation. Poor Rebecca and David; she makes sure that she sends her love to them. Oh god how are they coping, before she has time to process this, the doctor comes up to her.

“Hi Nora, so I hear our patient is awake again, am I right?” Michael says cheerfully after the news got to him.

Nora looks up at the doctor with tears in her eyes trying but failing to stop them from coming out “He doesn’t even know that he’s married, what is going to happen to him”.

“Well let me go and see him and we can take it from there, okay?” Michael says trying to calm down Nora. “Let put on a brave face while were in there, don’t want to concern him just yet. Sometimes individuals get temporary amnesia from an accident, okay?”

“But sometimes its permanent, isn’t it” Nora says knowing it’s true

“I’m not going to lie to you, yes, sometimes it is but I won’t know yet, let’s go and see him first” Michael says truthfully.
