Summary: Why Kevin really forgave Scotty.
There is a knock at the door. Jason looks up from the book he is reading, he looks at the time. It’s nearly 9 pm and he isn’t expecting anyone. He puts down the glass of wine in his hand (a habit he had achieved from the Walkers) and the book and he goes to answer the door.
He opens the door and the last person he would expect at the door, Kevin. Though over the years they had been become civil towards each other; they were more like family members that only saw each other on special occasions now. Like after the accident and Robert’s funeral; the Walkers had all been there for him even Scotty.
Now the person in front of him didn’t look like a family member but a predator, an ex-boyfriend, an ex-lover and he had no idea why he reacted that way.
“Kevin” Jason said shortly not sure what else to say; he moved to the side to let Kevin come in, it must be important it Kevin came to see him like this. His mind flashes to the night of the accident and then he wonders if Kitty was okay “Is everything okay?”
“Everything is great” Kevin says but Jason can hear the underline of sarcasm in his voice.
Kevin enters the room and then turns to Jason “I think I made a mistake”.
“Here confess to a minister” Jason states with a laugh not realizing that Kevin was serious.
“No, here to tell you I made a mistake in you” Kevin says openly “I should never have chosen Scotty over you” he says with tears building up in his eyes.
Jason can see how upset Kevin is, so he doesn’t say what he really wants to instead he looks at Kevin and says “You chose the person you wanted to be with, the person you love and then you married him. You committed to him and you chose the right person for you, the person you needed” Jason said hoping to cheer up Kevin but he looks even more lost than before.
“But I didn’t pick the right person” Kevin said grabbing and holding onto Jason’ arm and looking him directly into his eyes.

“Hello” Kitty says answering the phone, she expects it to be Kevin saying he has talked to Scotty and he is moving back home, she doesn’t expect it to be her brother-in-law.
“Kit, it’s Jason” he says worried if he was doing the right thing.
“Oh Jason, hi, sorry I’m so surprised to hear from you, I was expecting it to be someone else” Kitty answers honestly “How are you?” she asks confused about why he would be calling at 10 o’clock at night, must be an emergency.
“I’m good, for the most part” Jason explains “though slightly confused. Let me guess, you were expecting Kevin to be calling” he asks even more concerned about Kevin previous reaction.
“Um, yes” Kitty answers confused herself “how did you know?”
“Because he is here” Jason says.
“What, why” Kitty says with confusion and curiosity.
“He turned up here earlier” Jason said not sure if he should tell her the truth or not but figures he can tell her so of the conversation “he was saying he made a mistake in choosing Scotty over me”
“Oh, please, please, tell me nothing happened between you two?” Kitty literally screams and pleads with Jason.
“What, of course not” Jason says looking at the form of Kevin lying on his bed asleep and exhausted.
“Do I seem like the type of person to sleep with a married man” Jason says trying to defend himself.
“Well” Kitty says “I guess not” but really thinking that Jason had done things that she wouldn’t expect of him; how Kevin was miserable thorough their relationship when he was on his mission.
“Can you just explain to me what happened?” Jason says worried, there is still and will probable always be a small part of him that will care about Kevin.
Kitty hesitant but decides Jason should know the truth “Kevin found out recently that Scotty cheated on him”.
Jason gasps not expecting that to be the news “Really?” he asked.
“Yes” Kitty confirms “we are all shocked about it but it was Scotty that told Kevin” and she continues the conversation with all the details that she knows.
“Wow” Jason says once he is filled in with all the information “I don’t really know what to say”.
“Yeah, neither did we” Kitty says remembering when Kevin told her about it “Do you think you could send him home now, he is staying with me current and I’m worried about him” she said wanting to get them away from each other.
Jason frowns at her reaction “Yeah, I will do, talk later Kitty”
“Bye, Jason” Kitty says firmly, how are Kevin and Scotty going to fix things if Kevin slept with Jason she thought as she hung up the phone.
Jason looks at the phone after the conversation ended and he put it down and went to his bed.
“Kevin” Jason said gently shaking him awake.
“Jason” Kevin said slightly shocked about where he was and why he was there until he remembered.
“Time to go home, don’t you think so” Jason said smiling.
“Yes” Kevin said sitting up and getting ready.
They have a small conversation before Kevin leaves and a quick hug.

Kitty is getting nervous; it’s been about an hour since she hung up the phone with Jason and Kevin still isn’t back.
Kevin slowly opens the door not expecting anyone to still be up and 11 o’clock at night but he was wrong. Kitty was standing opposite the door.
“Oh, hi Kitty” Kevin said confused about why she would be up, she had a toddle that will be getting her up early anyway.
“Don’t, ‘oh, hi Kitty’ me” Kitty said furiously “what took you so long to get back here” she said worried that she told Jason the truth and that he took advantage of Kevin.
“What took me so long to get back here” Kevin said mockingly “I didn’t realize you were my mother, I already have an overbearing mother and I don’t need another. I was out thinking, is that allowed” he continued not wanting to say the truth.
“Out thinking” Kitty snorted “is that what you call being at Jason’ place. Do you want to completely ruin your marriage?” she asks.
“Can’t you already see that it’s already ruined” Kevin says getting angry “Scotty cheated on me, I’m living here” then he thought about she had said again “wait a minute, how did you know that I was at Jason’s anyway”.
“He rang” Kitty said.
“Well” Kevin said anger but with defeat as well “if he called then you know what happen, I’m going to bed”. He walks to the couch and lies down ignoring his sister.
Kitty walks anyway anger.

The next morning Kevin is still avoiding Kitty and had already left for work by the time that Kitty got up; which was impressive.
She doesn’t know what to do and with her phone in her hand she thinks about calling Sarah for the 100th time that morning when it rings.
“Sarah” Kitty says still not sure if she should keep the secret to herself or not “I was just thinking about calling you”.
“Oh, really” Sarah says picking up on her nervousness and knowing that means only one thing “you have a secret”.
“Um no” Kitty says not wanting to say anything.
“Can we please skip the part when you pretend you’re not going to tell me and just tell me anyway. Oh, wait I have Justin on the other line, I’ll patch him in” Sarah says switching over to Justin.
“Hey” Sarah said smiling “got Kitty on the other side and she has a secret”
“Oh” Justin said forgetting why he had rung Sarah in the first place “that isn’t allowed” he continues with an evil smile.
“I’m back” Sarah says.
“Yo, sis, spill” Justin says laughing.
“It just nothing really” Kitty says downplaying the situation as much as she can.
“Come on” both Justin and Sarah say wanting the details.
“Kevin was out last night” Kitty continues that story.
“And” again Justin and Sarah say getting impatient.
“He was over at Jason’s” Kitty said waiting for their reaction.
“Oh” was their reaction.
“Do you think....?” Sarah said.
“Not sure what to think and Kevin didn’t explain anything when he got back, he looked guilty and was gone before I could ask him anything this morning” Kitty said glad to be able to talk about this to someone.
“But Jason is a minister, isn’t he? He wouldn’t?” Justin asked hoping that if Kevin had turned up at Jason for some revenge sex or something that Jason would say no. Good thing he hadn’t gone to Chad’s instead though.
“True but just because he is a minister it doesn’t make him a saint” Sarah says remembering the conversation she and Tommy had had about Kevin and Jason when they were dating.
“Look I think we should keep this to us for now” Kitty says not wanting the news to get back to Kevin or Scotty.
Sarah hears a ringing on her phone again “Oh, wait, it is mum” Sarah says “Got to go” and she hangs up to pleas of not to tell her.
“Mum” Sarah says once she has her on the phone she doesn’t even pretend for normal conservation and says “Kevin spent the night over at Jason’ place last night”.
“What?” Nora said and again a Walker forgets why she had called Sarah in the first place.
“Kitty is the source” Sarah says “sorry I’ve got to go” and then she hangs up.
Nora looks at her phone in shock and confusion. She decides to call the one person she can rely on in a situation like this.
“Saul” Nora says when he picks up the phone.
“Nora, honey, I can’t speak right now” Saul said running around the kitchen in Cafe 429.
“Kevin slept with Jason last night” Nora said in a hurry worried that Saul would hang up the phone on her.
“I’m sorry, WHAT” Saul says drawing the attention of the rest of the workers in the cafe including Scotty. Then he waves them back to work but Scotty keeps a close eye on Saul wondering what the news is.
“Well, Kevin spent the night at Jason’s place last night, according to Sarah, who heard it from Kitty” Nora says.
“Well” Saul said “just because he was over there doesn’t mean that he slept with him” Saul said carefully not mentioning anyone’s name.
Though the fact that he said “he slept with him” meant that it was Kevin related in Scotty’s eyes, he continued to look at Saul until Saul realized that Scotty was staring at him.
“Nora, I have to go” Saul said.
“I don’t think you should mention this to Scotty, Saul” Nora said not wanting to hurt Scotty.
“Not sure if I have a choice now” Saul said “you shouldn’t have rung me while I’m at work”
“What” Nora said not understand then it was like a light switch off that turns on inside her head “Scotty is there, right now, isn’t he?” Nora asked but doesn’t need the answers.
“Yes, Nora. Bye” Saul says neutrally.
“Bye, Saul” Nora says and they hang up.
“Who did he sleep with?” Scotty asked scared with the answer, getting angry and also feeling like he was going to be sick. Kevin had gone into this office this morning again ignoring him.
“Look” Saul said trying to defend Kevin “there is no prove that Kevin slept with any. He was just out last night” Saul said trying to reassure Scotty.
“Who was it Saul?” Scotty said just wanting to hear the answer.
“It was Jason” Saul said knowing how upset it was going to make Scotty.
“Jason” Scotty said looking shocking “Jason, as in Jason?” please tell me it isn’t, Scotty thought, he can’t handle that. Anyone but the guy the Kevin loved while Scotty loved Kevin. The guy that makes Scotty feel so small.
Saul just nodded.
Scotty ran to the customer toilets, which were the closest and throw up until he had nothing else left in his stomach. He then got up, cleaned up the area and himself and then went to Kevin’ office.
He doesn’t even bother to knock on the door; he just walks in and shuts the door behind him, glad that Kevin doesn’t have any clients. He waits until Kevin looks at Scotty in the face.
“Not now” Kevin says not sure if he ever wants to talk to Scotty again.
“No, now” Scotty says getting angry.
Kevin looks up at the harsh voice that Scotty uses; it’s not often that he hears that voice from Scotty. It’s a mixture of anger and pain. He puts down the pen he was using and waits for Scotty to continue.
“Are you going to tell me?” Scotty says confronting Kevin.
“Tell you what?” Kevin asks thinking that Scotty might have gone crazy the way he is acting.
“You know, at least I told you the truth” Scotty states getting angry that Kevin won’t tell him the truth.
“Truth” Kevin says as he gets up and walks around the table and faces Scotty “that has got to be a joke right” looking at Scotty in the eyes “you took how many months to tell me the truth” Kevin spits out the word.
“Oh” Scotty says thinking that he was it figured out “so this is about revenge huh” Kevin still confused “I have to wait the same amount of time to find out that you slept with Jason”.
Kevin looks at him and then gets a nasty idea and smiles “Walker phone tree didn’t take that long, did it?” he smiles.
“No it did” Scotty said shocked that it was true, part of him was hoping that it wasn’t true “how could you?” he asks as he shoulders admitted defeat.
“How could you?” Kevin said repeating Scotty’ words feeling the sweet taste of revenge.
“I made a mistake” Scotty said trying to defend himself “I realized I hurt not only you but myself from what I did the moment it occurred. I knew it was a mistake and it meant nothing”
“Well” Kevin said “it meant something to me”
“That my point” Scotty said.
“What is your point?” Kevin said completely confused all of a sudden.
“That Jason...” Scotty said having a difficult time and starting the choke up on the tears that he didn’t want Kevin to see “that you loved him. That it meant something between you when you slept together. That you had a relationship and that you knew that it took us a while to get over that Jason hump” Scotty looks at Kevin completely devastated “I still want this marriage to work, don’t you”.
Scotty couldn’t help releasing some of the tears now but he still won’t let hear him cry.
Kevin looks at his gorgeous, vulnerable and crying husband in front of him and the revenge doesn’t feel so sweet anymore it actually feels like it’s turning into a bitter taste.
Kevin can’t bear to hurt Scotty that much and tells him the truth.
“Scotty” Kevin walks over to his husband but still can’t quite take him in his arms right now the pain was still too raw “look at me Scotty” Scotty picks up his head and looks Kevin directly in his eyes.
“I’m going to say this once and you are going to believe me, okay?” Kevin sound casually brushing against his arm, Scotty nods his confirmation “Nothing happened”.
Scotty wants to disagree with Kevin but had promised Kevin he would believe him and somehow he does. He knows when Kevin is lying and this isn’t one of those times.
“I went over to Jason’s because I needed to talk to someone” Kevin said “I needed to talk to someone who wasn’t part of this family and I knew Jason would listen to me; he would let me speak and not be judgemental or try and provide an answer. I will admit that I was so upset with you I told Jason that I should have picked him all those years ago” Scotty shock his head trying to tell him he was wrong that he made the right decision “but I know I made the right choice, I love you but right now I don’t trust you” Kevin concluded. This was what he had discovered after Jason and he had talked after he had cried himself to sleep on Jason’ bed.
“Kev” Scotty started wanting to tell him that he could trust him and that he would never fail him again.
“Scotty” Kevin says not wanting to hear what Scotty has to say; he knows that whatever he will say will make him stay and right now he knows he can’t.
He moves his hand up and down one of Scotty’s arm and then continues “Not now. I don’t know when but right know I can’t hear it. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear it, it just means I can’t right now”.
He turns back to his office and picks up a few folders and walks away from Scotty and back to Kitty’s place. He glanced backwards once to see Scotty standing where he left him looking at him.
With a small sad smile at Scotty he exited the cafe.

“Truth” Kevin says as he gets up and walks around the table and faces Scotty “that has got to be a joke right” looking at Scotty in the eyes “you took how many months to tell me the truth” Kevin spits out the word.
“Oh” Scotty says thinking that he was it figured out “so this is about revenge huh” Kevin still confused “I have to wait the same amount of time to find out that you slept with Jason”.
Kevin looks at him and then gets a nasty idea and smiles “Walker phone tree didn’t take that long, did it?” he smiles.
“No it did” Scotty said shocked that it was true, part of him was hoping that it wasn’t true “how could you?” he asks as he shoulders admitted defeat.
“How could you?” Kevin said repeating Scotty’ words feeling the sweet taste of revenge.
“I made a mistake” Scotty said trying to defend himself “I realized I hurt not only you but myself from what I did the moment it occurred. I knew it was a mistake and it meant nothing”
“Well” Kevin said “it meant something to me”
“That my point” Scotty said.
“What is your point?” Kevin said completely confused all of a sudden.
“That Jason...” Scotty said having a difficult time and starting the choke up on the tears that he didn’t want Kevin to see “that you loved him. That it meant something between you when you slept together. That you had a relationship and that you knew that it took us a while to get over that Jason hump” Scotty looks at Kevin completely devastated “I still want this marriage to work, don’t you”.
Scotty couldn’t help releasing some of the tears now but he still won’t let hear him cry.
Kevin looks at his gorgeous, vulnerable and crying husband in front of him and the revenge doesn’t feel so sweet anymore it actually feels like it’s turning into a bitter taste.
Kevin can’t bear to hurt Scotty that much and tells him the truth.
“Scotty” Kevin walks over to his husband but still can’t quite take him in his arms right now the pain was still too raw “look at me Scotty” Scotty picks up his head and looks Kevin directly in his eyes.
“I’m going to say this once and you are going to believe me, okay?” Kevin sound casually brushing against his arm, Scotty nods his confirmation “Nothing happened”.
Scotty wants to disagree with Kevin but had promised Kevin he would believe him and somehow he does. He knows when Kevin is lying and this isn’t one of those times.
“I went over to Jason’s because I needed to talk to someone” Kevin said “I needed to talk to someone who wasn’t part of this family and I knew Jason would listen to me; he would let me speak and not be judgemental or try and provide an answer. I will admit that I was so upset with you I told Jason that I should have picked him all those years ago” Scotty shock his head trying to tell him he was wrong that he made the right decision “but I know I made the right choice, I love you but right now I don’t trust you” Kevin concluded. This was what he had discovered after Jason and he had talked after he had cried himself to sleep on Jason’ bed.
“Kev” Scotty started wanting to tell him that he could trust him and that he would never fail him again.
“Scotty” Kevin says not wanting to hear what Scotty has to say; he knows that whatever he will say will make him stay and right now he knows he can’t.
He moves his hand up and down one of Scotty’s arm and then continues “Not now. I don’t know when but right know I can’t hear it. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear it, it just means I can’t right now”.
He turns back to his office and picks up a few folders and walks away from Scotty and back to Kitty’s place. He glanced backwards once to see Scotty standing where he left him looking at him.
With a small sad smile at Scotty he exited the cafe.
