Summary: AU this is my first try at this one. So at the moment I’ve been writing about a case study for my course; this makes me feel like I’m still doing uni work.

A/N – I know it been a while since my last chapter – my previous post explains why; so sorry.

The Walker family arrived for breakfast in the saloon together; noticing that William drew one of the waiters to a side and barked an order at him and then joined the rest of the family.

Everyone in the family understood that something was going to occur but no one except William and Kevin knew exactly what was happening. Though Sarah and Julia had guessed by the expressions on Kevin’ face what was going to happen; he looked like he was going to be sick.

Kevin’s stomach was a mass of nerves where he didn’t know whether he was coming or going; he looked around and his eyes landed on those of his fathers and he saw the expectation in them.

He then stood up and caught the attention of his family before he started to speak; he looked the apprehensive faces of his family and swallowed the lump in his throat.

“I am lucky enough to be surrounded by the people I love most in the world for this special moment” he looked at Emily and plucked the ring box from his pocket with an aww that came not only from his family but from near tables that could see the box.

“From the moment I meet you I knew that you were different from anyone else I’d ever met; you are beautiful, patient and loving” at this point he got down on one knee and opened the ring box “Emily, will you marry me?” Kevin asked confidently but underneath praying she would say no but knowing she would actually say ‘yes’.

“Of course I will Kevin” Emily answered with a smile on her face; Kevin took the ring from the box and put it on Emily’s finger.

Emily stood up and gave Kevin a quick kiss and then brought him into a hug, both of them looking at the real person they loved that was staring at them just as hurt and confused as both Kevin and Emily felt.

Kevin watch as a few waiters came closer with some empty glasses on trays and a couple of bottles of champagne.

William grabbed hold of one of the bottles of champagne and quickly said “To the happy couple” and popped the bottle without realizing that no one looked particularly happy about the event that just occurred or that the happy couple didn’t look happy. Though both Kevin and Emily bad plastered smiles on their face; it didn’t reach up to their eyes.

Scotty stared at Kevin as he stood up and then got on one knee; he knew in theory that Kevin was proposing to his girlfriend but he just couldn’t understand what he was seeing.

This was not the man he knew; then he realized as he saw Kevin watching him that Kevin was just as hurt and confused as Scotty.
Scotty had no idea what had happened to Kevin since the time they spent together but he seemed to have admitted defeat; the sparkle that had been in his eyes from the moment they had met had disappeared.

Then he saw the smile that William had on his face and just like Kevin the smile didn’t reach his eyes either but for a different reason; he had an cruel or even evil glare in his eyes. It was as if he had setup Kevin to propose to Emily.

As soon as the thought entered his mind; it just wouldn’t leave.

That was when he knew that William had done exactly that; the only thing that Scotty couldn’t understand was why Kevin would agree to the situation.

There was only one thing to do; confront to Kevin.

But how was he supposed to do that? Scotty thought to himself.

Justin deflated as soon as Emily said yes.

It was as this point that Justin actually realized he was in love with Emily.

But of course Emily wouldn’t want Justin, she should be with someone like Kevin; who was smart and wealthy.

Rather than a poor, stupid and alcoholic person like himself.

He saw Emily looking at him and misread the confusion and hurt on her face and instead saw only pity.

Oh great, Justin thought, Emily knows that he loves her; just what he needed.

He looked away and watched as his father popped the champagne; he was about take a glass when he remembered the ring issue and
the fact he wanted to clean up his act so that he could get a lady like Emily.

Though if he was honest he just wanted Emily.

He put the glass down on the table; in front of him and just watched it for the rest of breakfast.

“Of course I will, Kevin” Emily heard herself say.

She had been waiting for this moment for over a year now and didn’t understand why she wasn’t more excited about the situation.

She felt herself stand though she couldn’t remember ever thinking about it; it was as she was on autopilot, with her body doing exactly what is was supposed to being in this type of situation.

She felt numb or at least she did until she saw Justin staring at her.

And then she knew why it didn’t feel right.

She always said that she just cared about Justin; as if he was a kid brother.

But looking at him now and she knew.

She knew that she was in love with a Walker.

Just not the one she was supposed to be in love with.

She sighed as she thought the last thought.

She was in love with Justin Walker.

Though no one notice the hostility from one member of the family when Kevin slipped the ring on Emily’s finger; they had to quickly smile as everyone looked around at each other.
